NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. -- Â The Merrimack College softball team split its first-ever Northeast Conference doubleheader on Saturday against the Wagner Seahawks.

In the first game,
Madie Fornwalt's complete game bolstered the Warriors to a 3-0 win, before a late rally was held off in the second game, falling 5-3 to the Seahawks.

Rapid Recap (Game One)
- Merrimack opened the scoring in the first, as Tiffany Mangiameli worked an opening walk. Abigail Amato snapped a triple, bringing in Mangiameli, before she was tagged out trying to come home to score.
- In the third, Elizabeth McCoy led off with a single to left, as Mangiameli again made it on base after reaching on a fielder's choice. McCoy advanced to third on a throwing error by the third baseman to give Merrimack runners in scoring position.
- Freshman Sarah Reisler laid down a bunt and reached second, scoring both runners aboard to give Merrimack a 3-0 lead.
- Fornwalt's complete game featured four strikeouts, sending 11 hitters into ground ball plays on the afternoon.

Rapid Recap (Game Two)
- Wagner put two runs on the board in the first, with a double in the game's first at-bat. With Ward on second, Bender reached by a fielding error, advancing Ward to third. Bender stole second and was brought home by Van Orman's single to left. The Seahawks added their second run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to left.
- The score held through five innings, until back-to-back singles and stolen bases put Wagner with runners on second and third. A double to left brought in the fourth run of the game before an obstruction call at second base allowed the Seahawks to steal home.
- Merrimack worked to start a rally in the bottom of the sixth, as Madison Cerpa reached on a fielding error at short to lead off the inning. Hannah Scarano reached on an error at second to put runners at first and second for Merrimack.
- Gibbons advanced Cerpa and Scarano into scoring position, where the two freshmen were brought in on a single down the line by Catherine Kingman.
- The Warriors started to rally in the bottom of the seventh, with Ashley Conway hitting a single to right to start things off. Mangiameli pinch ran for her, advancing to second on a grounder by Lexi LeFebre. Viviana Bocanegra lofted an RBI single, as Mangiameli crossed for the Warriors' third run of the day.
