NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College softball team travels to Madeira Beach, Fla. this weekend to play its inaugural Division I games. The Warriors will play six games throughout three days to open up the season as part of The Spring Games tournament. The Warriors take on Manhattan (11 a.m.) and Colgate (4 p.m.) Friday, followed by Cornell (4 p.m.) and Albany (6:30 p.m.) Saturday, and will conclude play against South Dakota (9 a.m.) and Providence (11:30 a.m.) Sunday.

Five Things to Know:
  • The Warriors return some key offensive contributors with junior Lucy Colarusso, who had a .346 BA, 17 RBI, and 46 hits last season, and senior captain Tiffany Mangiameli, who posted a .341 BA, .823 OPS and 47 hits.
  • The pitching staff will be anchored once again by Jenna Wike and Bridget Soraghan. Wike, a sophomore, posted a 2.02 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in her first year, appearing in a team leading 30 games. Soraghan threw four complete games and had eight wins last season.
  • Mangiameli, Colarusso and Wike all return as NE-10 All-Conference selections a year ago. Mangiameli's fielding percentage was high among Merrimack infielders, at .959. Colarusso lead the team in fielding assists with 110, and had just 12 strikeouts in over 125 at-bats. Wike held a 2.13 ERA, good for lowest on the team.
  • Merrimack will be in Madeira Beach for its first 17 games of the season split between two weekends. This weekend Merrimack will complete six of the 17 games between Feb. 21-23. The teams first Division I contest will be against Manhattan College on Feb. 21, with the team's inaugural NEC contest at Martone- Mejail Field on Saturday, March 28 against Bryant.
  • Colgate, South Dakota, and Providence have already had games, each playing at least five games thus far. South Dakota slated to finish second in the Summit League preseason poll was slated to finish the best out of any other of this weekend's competition.
