North Andover, M.A.— Merrimack Softball split their opening two games against the FDU Knights, falling in game one, 2-1 and winning the second game 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Game 1: FDU took the lead in the second inning and would add their second run of the game in the fifth. Merrimack would cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning as
Ellen Hubbard laced a single through the right side scoring
Thiana Brito. This however would be the Warriors only run of game one as the Knights held them off the board for the final two innings.
Notes and Numbers:
Game 2: In the second game of the afternoon, Merrimack scored two runs in the first inning as they loaded the bases early, before the run would score on a double play, and
Gabby Kaduson would hit an RBI triple one batter later. The Knights would tie the game in the fourth but Merrimack would go ahead from there in the fifth as
Madeline Arvai scored
Courtney Lanpher with an RBI single. With the lead re-established
Sofia Palyan would allow one hit over the last two innings to capture the win.
Notes and Numbers:
- Gabby Kaduson had two hits including the aforementioned double, Ellen Hubbard and Madeline Arvai had the other hits for the Warriors.
- Sofia Palyan collected the win, with three innings in relief allowing two hits and striking out three.
