Softball Heads to Bentley Thursday to Conclude Seven Straight Days of Games

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Merrimack College softball team will travel to Bentley on Thursday afternoon to conclude a stretch of 14 games in seven consecutive days when they take on the Falcons in a doubleheader and look to take the season series starting at 3:00 p.m.

Last Time Out:
The Warriors had their six-game win streak snapped in extra innings of game one of a doubleheader with Stonehill on Wednesday at Warrior Diamond, falling in 12 innings, 6-4. Merrimack responded to that loss by piling on 11 runs in game two of the day and ending the game early due to mercy rule as they split the twinbill with the Skyhawks in Northeat-10 Conference divisional play.

Earlier This Season vs. Bentley:
Just earlier this week on Tuesday, the Warriors registered their third consecutive sweep and won their fourth and fifth straight games when they beat Bentley in two games at Warrior Diamond. Junior captain Haley Currie (Burlington, Mass.) pitched a complete game shutout in game one as Merrimack came out on top, 4-0. Sophomore Megan Cook (Bellingham, Mass.) took the mound for game two, also pitchoing a complete game and allowing just one run to lead the Warriors to two be NE-10 divisional wins.

The Falcons:

  • Bentley enters Tuesday's games with a 10-14 record overall and holds a 6-5 record in the NE-10 Northeast Division, which has them in fourth place. With a win in game one on Thursday, the Warrior would hop Bentley for fourth-place in the division and have the tiebreaker in hand.
  • Junior Kelsey Kennedy leads her team this season with a .364 batting average in 23 games this year. She is also tied for third on the team with seven RBI and is one of just three players on the roster who have registered a home run.
  • Senior Kelly Ferris has handled a majority of the work on the mound this season, pitching 57% of inning time among four different pitchers. She has a 6-8 record with the fourth-lowest ERA in the NE-10 at 1.99. Junior Kelsey Smith is second on her team with 38.0 IP this season, posting a 4-2 record with three complete games and a 3.50 ERA.

Up Next
The Warriors are back in action at home this weekend when they host Franklin Pierce for four games across Saturday and Sunday, with both afternoon doubleheaders beginning at noon.
