Women’s Cross Country Notches 8th Place Finish at NCAA East Regional

BOSTON, MA- Coming off a strong showing in the Northeast-10 championships, Merrimack women's cross country finished 8th in the Division II East Regional held at Franklin Park in Boston. The Warriors posted a cumulative time of 2:02:37 in their final performance of the year. They were edged by NE-10 foe Le Moyne for 7th place, but finished ahead of American International and Southern Connecticut, who placed 9th and 10th.

"I would say it was a bit of an off day but we managed to get through it," said head coach Chris Cameron, of the meet. "It was an adjustment for the girls running a 6k rather than a 5k."

Sophomore Brianna Devereaux (Londonderry, NH) continued her stellar second season, turning in a 38th place finish to lead the Warriors. Devereaux finished in a time of 24:18.5, leading the team for another meet. Freshman Chandler Ortega (Pittsfield, MA) was next across the line in a time of 24:28.2. Ortega finished in 48th place and caps off a very successful first year on the racecourse.

Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, NH) put the finishing touches on her collegiate career, finishing three seconds behind Ortega in 49th place. Senior Ashley Sarris (Shelton, CT) and junior Anne Bajor (Methuen, MA) were next, Sarris finished 54th in 24:36.4 and Bajor finished 60th in 24:42.6.

Rounding out the field for the Warriors were Meghan Brophy (Waltham, MA) and Fiona Coleman (Windsor, CT). Brophy finished a solid freshman campaign with a 64th place finish while Coleman closed out an excellent junior season with a time good enough for 70th place.
