Women's Volleyball Finalizes Class of 2018
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Fresh off its remarkable 2013 season that featured a seven-win improvement and a magical run to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, the Merrimack College volleyball team and fourth-year head coach T.J. Hajjar are pleased to welcome Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio) to the program as the lone member of the Class of 2018.
After graduating just one senior from last year's squad, the Warriors will welcome McCarroll this fall as the only incoming freshman. The Ohio native will bring depth as an outside hitter to a potent offense that ranked among the best in the NE-10 last fall in kills per set.
"Mary Kate is a one-of-a-kind player," Hajjar mentioned of the signing. "She will prove to be a major force at the net for us this year."
A four-year letterwinner at the high school level, McCarroll helped lead Harrison High School (Ohio) to back-to-back Section II Championships as a freshman and sophomore before playing at Shenendehowa High School (N.Y.) as a junior and senior. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter was named to three all-league teams, including a First-Team All-SWOC selection as a senior, when she was named the Team MVP and a participant in the City Senior All-Star Game.
Outside of the high school circuit, McCarroll was a member of the Northern Kentucky-Ohio Volleyball Club Team, and was also recruited by Western New England, UMass Boston and Roger Williams.
She and the rest of the Warriors will return to campus in mid-August for preseason before their season opener on Thursday, Sept. 4, against Southern New Hampshire at Hammel Court (7 p.m.).
