Sheehan Earns AVCA All-Region Honors

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Merrimack College junior outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region Team.

Merrimack was led all season by Sheehan, who averaged a team-best 3.92 kills per set (first in the NE-10), as well as a 2.76 dis per set, while totaling 35 service aces and 50 blocks for the Warriors. She led Merrimack with 14 double-doubles in 32 matches in 2013.

The Smithtown, N.Y. native, has also made herself known in the All-Time Record Book ranking second in career kills with 1,130, while posting her 1,000th kill in the 3-0 loss to NYIT on Nov. 2nd. She also ranks second with a .928 receiving percentage and ranks third averaging 3.47 kills per set.

Merrimack finished 15-14 in the regular season and earned its first trip since 2010 to the NE-10 Championship. The seventh-seeded Warriors held off Saint Rose on the road on November 19th in the quarterfinal match before defeating Stonehill College in four sets on November 22nd.

With the win over the Skyhawks, the Warriors advanced to the NE-10 Finals for the first time since 2008. The Warriors managed to tie the Chargers, 2-2 with a big fourth-set victory, but Merrimack couldn't stop New Haven from taking the final set and match.
