Stuhr Named 2013 NE-10 Rookie of the Year; Sheehan Earns First-Team Honors

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Freshman setter Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) has been selected as the 2013 Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year, as voted upon the conference's 15 coaches. Junior outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) garnered First-Team All-Conference, while Stuhr also has been named to the NE-10 All-Rookie Team and Second-Team All-Conference.

Merrimack finished the regular season with a 15-14 record on the season and finished seventh in conference play with a 9-5 record. After defeating the College of Saint Rose in the NE-10 Quarterfinals on Tuesday night, the Navy and Gold has posted its first playoff win since 2008. 

Stuhr has been a key contributor in Merrimack's turnaround from a last-place conference finish a year ago. She currently ranks first in the league averaging 10.30 assists per set. Stuhr has also recorded 206 digs, 31 total blocks, and 61 kills. The Huntington Beach, Calif. native ranks second in the single-season rankings and fourth in the All-Time rankings with 1133 total assists.

Sheehan remained atop the Warrior's kills list for a majority of the season, swinging 3.96 kills per set to rank first in the league. She notched 13 double-doubles, including a season-high 28 kills on two separate occasions. Sheehan has posted 47 total blocks, 307 digs, and 28 total assists. The Smithtown, N.Y. native, currently ranks 16th in Division II women's volleyball averaging 4.55 points per game, as well as ranking second in All-Time rankings with 436 total kills.

The seventh seeded Warriors will travel to West Haven, Conn. on Friday, Nov. 22, to face the sixth seeded Stonehill College in the NE-10 Conference Semifinals. The match is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
