STEPHANIE SHEEHAN SELECTED TO THE COSIDA CAPITAL ONE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Junior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) of the Merrimack College women's volleyball team has been selected to the COSIDA Capital One Academic All-District First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America, as announced Thursday afternoon.
Sheehan is once again in the midst of a stellar campaign for the Warriors, who are 12-13 overall (6-4 Northeast-10 Conference) on the season heading into the final weeks of the regular season. Last season, the outside hitter, appeared in all 112 sets and led the team with 378 kills and 3.38 kills per set.
She currently ranks first in the NE-10 in total kills (355) and kills per set (3.94). The Smithtown, N.Y. native, is also No. 23 in all of Division II in points per set (4.4), as well as No. 24 in kills per set. This season she has been named as a Sports Imports/AVCA Division II National Player of the Week, as well as a multiple Northeast-10 Player of the Week.
The academic honor is another prestigious accolade for Sheehan. An Elementary Education major boasted a 3.5 cumulative grade point average through the end of the 2012-13 academic year, joins other student-athletes from across the country who were of sophomore class year or higher and owned at least a 3.30 GPA.
Sheehan and the Warriors return to action Saturday, Nov. 9 when they host the Yellow Jackets of American International at Hammel Court. Match is set for 1 p.m.
