NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Junior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) of the Merrimack College women's volleyball team were selected for top honors by the Northeast-10 Conference earlier today.
Sheehan has earned her third Northeast-10 Player of the Week selection, while Stuhr also earned her third Northeast-10 Setter and Rookie of the Week. Both helped the Warriors improve to 8-10, 3-2 on the season and go 1-1 on the week falling to Bentley, 3-2 and defeated Southern New Hampshire, 3-1.
Sheehan led the way for the Warriors after averaging 4.89 kills per set and hit .360 in a 1-1 week for Merrimack. She added 2.11 digs per frame in the week, which included a five-set loss to Bentley and a 3-1 victory against So. New Hampshire. Sheehan posted 24 kills and eight digs against Bentley, then had 20 kills and 11 digs against Southern New Hampshire for her seventh double-double of the season.
On the season, Sheehan ranks 15th nationally averaging 4.14 kills per set and ranks 12th nationally averaging 4.64 points per set. The Smithtown, N.Y. native currently ranks first in the Northeast-10 with 261 kills (4.14 k/s).
Stuhr averaged 11.22 assists per set and 1.22 digs per frame in a 1-1 week for Merrimack. She added five kills and three services aces. In a 3-2 loss against Bentley, Stuhr posted a career-high 54 assists. The rookie tallied 47 assists in the 3-1 victory against So. New Hampshire.
Stuhr currently ranks 39th nationally averaging 10.17 assists per set, while claiming the no. one spot in the Northeast-10.
The Warriors return to action tonight for an away match against Franklin Pierce starting at 7:00 p.m.
