NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Junior Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) and freshman Tara Stuhr (Huntington Beach, Calif.) of the Merrimack College women's volleyball team were selected for top honors by the Northeast-10 Conference earlier today.
Sheehan has earned her second Northeast-10 Player of the Week selection, while Stuhr also earned her second Northeast-10 Setter and Rookie of the Week. Both helped the Warriors improve to 6-7, 1-0 on the season and go 2-0 on the week with victories against Assumption and Southern Connecticut.
Sheehan led the way for the Warriors after averaging 5.17 kills and 2.83 digs per set. She finished with 31 kills and 17 digs on the week, including a 19-kill, 9-dig performance against Southern Connecticut on Saturday.
On the season, Sheehan ranks 17th national averaging 4.11 kills per set and ranks 15th nationally averaging 4.66 points per set. The Smithtown, N.Y. native currently ranks first in the Northeast-10 with 181 kills (4.11 k/s).
Stuhr averaged 14.83 assists and 1.50 digs per set over the span of the week. Against Assumption, Stuhr posted 42 assists, five digs, and three service aces. Over the weekend, she notched 47 assists and four digs against Southern Connecticut, allowing her to lay claim to her second weekly conference honor.
Stuhr currently ranks 38th nationally averaging 10.32 assists per set, while claiming the no. one spot in the Northeast-10.
The Warriors return to action tonight for an away match against Saint Anselm starting at 7:30 p.m.
