Women’s Volleyball Announces 2013 Schedule
MERRIMACK WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL UNVEILS 2013 SEASON SCHEDULE
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Highlighted by an early-season trip to the Lone Star State and a challenging non-conference slate against some top teams in the East Region, third-year head coach T.J. Hajjar has unveiled the 2013 Merrimack women's volleyball schedule, as announced Monday.
The Warriors' 28-match slate features the season-opening Hilltopper-Rattler Classic – a multi-team tournament hosted by St. Edward's University and St. Mary's University – and 12 matches within the friendly confines of Bert Hammel Court, up from the nine-match home schedule last fall.
Merrimack, which finished the 2012 season with 10 victories, will look to return the Northeast-10 Conference Championships this November for the first time since the fall of 2010; the top-eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season qualify for the eight-team, NE-10 tournament with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament on the line.
The season begins with a challenging first four games at St. Edward's University, as the Warriors face the host Hilltoppers to open the 2013 campaign on Sept. 6 before battling Adams State later that day. On Saturday (Sept. 7), the Navy and Gold take on Western New Mexico and Minn.-Crookston to round out their tournament schedule.
After back-to-back road matches against Bentley (Sept. 11) and Nyack (Sept. 14), the latter of which will be played at Molloy, the Warriors will enjoy three consecutive home matches beginning with Saint Anselm on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.
Later that weekend, Merrimack will host a tri-match on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21. The host Warriors will do battle against Post on Friday night before taking on Dowling the following afternoon.
The following week, Merrimack begins its quest for its second NE-10 regular season crown when it opens up league play on Oct. 5 against Southern Connecticut. Eight of Merrimack's 14 league matches will be played in North Andover, including back-to-back matches against Bentley and Southern New Hampshire (Oct. 15, 19), and three straight home tilts from Oct. 25-26 and Oct. 29 (Le Moyne, Saint Rose, Stonehill).
In November, Merrimack's final two home matches fall on Saturday, Nov 9 (American Int'l) and Tuesday, Nov. 12 (Saint Michael's). The Warriors round out the regular season in the Empire State on Nov. 15-16, facing Pace and Adelphi on back-to-back days before the NE-10 Championships open up the following week.
