Volleyball Downed 3-0 by Saint Rose on Senior Day
North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack volleyball team was downed by the Saint Rose Golden Knights 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Bert Hammel Court. The Warriors honored their only senior, Nicole Duarte (Windham, NH) before the game as part of their senior day ceremonies. The loss ends the season for the Merrimack volleyball team as they close out the season with a 5-22 (2-13) record.
Game scores against Saint Rose: 25-12, 26-24, 25-20.
"It was a tough match for us today against a good team," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "This season had a lot of ups and downs but we are returning almost everyone next year which excites me about the possibilities of the team in the future."
The Warriors fell behind yet again in set two by the score of 13-6 but two 6-0 runs for Merrimack pushed the set into extra points. Unfortunately the Warriors were unable to hold off the Golden Knights charge as they closed out set two with the final two points on thunderous kills. Duarte and Jackie Jones (Amherst, NH) each had good sets compiling four kills.
Duarte finished off her collegiate volleyball career with a well rounded game for the Warriors as she ended with six kills, five digs and four service aces. Reilly led the way for the Warriors with seven kills while Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) finished off her solid freshman campaign with five kills and seven digs. Jones racked up six kills and a team-high ten digs for Merrimack. Brianna Trabucco (Canton, Mass.) finished the game with a team-high 23 assists.
Merrimack finishes off the 2011-12 season with a record of 5-22 (2-13).
