Volleyball Downed 3-0 at Lowell

North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack volleyball team was defeated on Tuesday night as they hit the road for a conference game against UMass Lowell. The Warriors were downed in straight sets 3-0. The loss drops Merrimack to 3-20 (0-11 NE-10).

Game scores against UMass Lowell: 25-17, 13-25, 23-25.

"We came out slow tonight and could not turn it around," said head coach TJ Hajjar. "We had a big lead in the third set and we could not finish them off. We need to play a lot better if we want to win."

Set one was led throughout by the River Hawks as they finished off the set with a 25-17 victory. Shaunda Forcier (Gonic, NH) recorded three kills in the set and Corinne Gosselin (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded a team-high four kills.  

UMass Lowell jumped out early in the second set leading 13-3 early on and never relinquished that lead going on for the 25-13 victory. Brianna Trabucco (Canton, Mass.) saw her first action in nearly two weeks and was effective for the Warriors recording 10 assists in the second set.

Set three was a tightly contested set as Merrimack played well early on with a 14-10 lead mid way through the set. The Warriors continued their strong play as they were leading 23-17 closing in on a victory in the third set but a late 8-0 run by the River Hawks ended the match for Merrimack with the 25-23 loss.

Offensively the Warriors were given solid performances by Jenna Reilly (Northport, N.Y.) who recorded a team high eight kills and freshman Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, N.Y.) who racked up five kills on the night. Trabucco led the team with 17 assists and Jackie Jones (Amherst, NH) led the team with 14 digs.

The River Hawks were led to victory on the night by Lea Freeman who racked up a match-high 17 kills and Hannah Ray who had 14 kills. Olivia Parkins recorded a match-high 37 assists on the night.

Merrimack (3-20, 0-11 NE-10) will return home to North Andover on Thursday for a match against conference foe, Assumption at 7 p.m. at Bert Hammel Court.
