North Andover, MA –The Penmen of Southern New Hampshire defeated the Merrimack volleyball team 3-0 thursday night inside the Volpe Gym.
Game scores were 25-22, 25-19, 25-20.
Merrimack stormed back after falling behind 17-11 midway through set one, tying the Penmen at 21. But the Penmen were too much and they handed the Warriors a 25-22 loss in set one. The Warriors were led by senior Nicole Duarte (Windham, NH) who recorded her second double-double on the young season with 11 kills and 12 digs.
Merrimack hung with Southern New Hampshire in set three as they were tied at 17, but an 8-3 run to end set three for the Penmen put Merrimack away. Set three was a closely fought set as there were 12 ties.
Merrimack junior Brianna Trabucco (Canton, MA) continued her solid play from the setter position as she recorded a team high 23 assists. Freshman outside hitter Stephanie Sheehan (Smithtown, NY) put in a strong performance as she produced seven kills and eight digs for the Warriors.
"We had a hard time working together tonight, we never gelled and it made it tough for us to come away with a victory" said Head Coach TJ Hajjar. "We have a real young team and we all need to work together and gel in order for us to be successful."
Merrimack (2-6, 0-1 NE-10) will travel to American International for a sunday afternoon contest September 18 at 1 PM.
