NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Following a strong final weekend to the regular season across two different meets, the Merrimack College men's and No. 11 women's track & field teams garnered three weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference, including the third straight Track Athlete of the Week award for senior captain Carly Muscaro (Ashland, Mass.), as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Muscaro takes home her third consecutive NE10 Track Athlete of the Week award in just her third week of competition for the indoor season after again shining in three different events at the Boston University Valentine Invite. The senior posted the best time in the nation in an individual event for the third time this season, doing so in the 200m with a Division II-best time of 23.60, breaking her school record and automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. She added another school record in the 60m dash, posting a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.64 to finish fourth at the meet and rank 17th in Division II.
Muscaro would also be joined by classmate and co-captain Olivia Downey (Melrose, Mass.), sophomore Michaela Pernell (Naugatuck, Conn.) and freshman Savanna Spencer (Seabrook, N.H.) in the 4x400m relay to win the first Relay Team of the Week award for the Warriors this season. They would win the event at BU among Division I competition, posting the best time in the nation this season in the event at 3:44.93.
On the men's side, freshman Patrick Whyte (Bloomfield, Conn.) would earn his second Field Rookie of the Week honor of the season after his performance in the high jump at the Gordon Kelly Invite at MIT. Whyte would finish fourth in the event with a personal-best jump of 1.93m. The jump ranks eighth in the NE10 this season, with three of the seven better jumps coming from fellow Warriors.
Muscaro, Whyte and the rest of the Warriors will begin the postseason this weekend when they compete at the NE10 Championships on Saturday in Boston.
