Full Release

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - After posting impressive results in both the 500m race and the high jump over the weekend, freshman Olivia Downey (Melrose, Mass.) of the Merrimack College women's track & field team was named the Northeast-10 Conference Field Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league Monday.

Thanks to another solid weekend of competition, Downey picked up her third weekly honor of the 2013-14 indoor season in the process, as the Melrose, Mass., native was honored for her record-setting efforts in both the 500m race and the high jump.

Competing as a split-squad member at Boston University's Scarlet and White Invitational on Saturday, Downey added to an already impressive rookie season with two more noteworthy events against some of the region's top competition.

Downey competed in the 500m, placing second with a time of 1:18.92, setting a school record in the process. Meanwhile in the field, she broke the old school record (1.65m) in the high jump and now owns the best high jump mark in the NE-10.

Merrimack returns to action this weekend, as the Warriors compete in the Northeast-10 Championships from Friday through Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
