Figuereo Dominates Sprints, Women's Track & Field Finishes Ninth at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – Led by sophomore Noelia Figuereo (Haverhill, Mass.) laying claim to wins in the 100m and 200m dashes, respectively, the Merrimack women's track & field team placed ninth at the Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday afternoon in Medford, Mass.

The Warriors earned 45 team points on the day to finish ahead of Division I opponents Boston University, Hartford University and Holy Cross. A total of 23 schools were represented, with Tufts, Boston College and Northeastern rounding out the top three finishers.

Figuereo continued her sensational debut season with the Warriors with two more wins in sprint events. First, the sophomore won the 100m dash with a time of 12.32 seconds before doing likewise in the 200m with a time of 25.19 seconds.

Moving to distance, junior Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, N.H.) enjoyed a fine performance in the 800m, finishing in sixth with a time of 2:22.66 seconds. In the 400m hurdles, sophomore Christine Manfra (Stoneham, Mass.) led the way with a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:08.59. Finally, in the Steeplechase, classmate Kelsey Grimmer (Shelton, Conn.) posted a top-three time of 11:50.73 to finish in third.

Finally, the women's 4x800m relay team took runner-up honors. Senior Julie Binney (South Easton, Mass.), freshman Julianne Amann (Holliston, Mass.), sophomore Meghan Brophy (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Caisie Wynot (Braintree, Mass.) combined to finish with a time of 10:54.30 in the event.

Merrimack will continue its outdoor season next Saturday at the UMass Lowell Invitational.
