Merrimack Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Prepares for New England Championships on Friday

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The Merrimack men's and women's track and field teams will travel to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the New England Championships on Friday and Saturday.

The Warriors men's team qualified for nine events and the women's team qualified for five events for the two-day event.

In track events for the men, Anthony Arcari (Tewksbury, Mass.) qualified for the 100 meter dash while Francuesco Cuesta qualified for the 200 meter dash. Ethan Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) will be participating in the 400 meter run while senior John Doherty (Chelmsford, Mass.) will run in the 10,000 meter run.

Two Warrior relay teams qualified for the New England Championships including the team of Jesse Fowler (Lynn, Mass.), Arcari, Ethan Weaver and Cuesta in the 4x100 meter relay. The other men's relay team of Luis Cruz (Lawrence, Mass.), Ian Weaver (Brooklyn, CT), Ethan Weaver and Cuesta will participate in the 4x400 meter relay.

The Warriors will also take part in three field events as Nour Shahin (Peabody, Mass.) qualified for both the shot put and the Discus throw. Ian Weaver was the other qualifier for the Warriors in the high jump event.

On the women's side, the Warriors qualified for four track events. Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, NH) and Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, NH) were the lone Warriors to qualify for the 1,500 meter run and 10,000 meter runs respectively. Ashley Sarris (Shelton, CT) will participate in the 3,000 meter stepple chase while Anne Bajor (Methuen, Mass.) and Kelsey Grimmer (Shelton, CT) both qualified for the 5,000 meter run.

The relay team of Devereaux, Bajor, Kayla Morong (Topsham, ME) and Andrea Chapa-Cerviatti (Worcester, Mass.) were the lone team to qualify for the Warriors in the 4x800 meter relay.
