NEW HAVEN, CT – The Merrimack women's track and field team competed on Friday afternoon in the first day of the Northeast-10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Warriors qualified four runners for the 100 meter dash event. Merrimack's top finishers were Mary Murphy (Boxborough, Mass.) and Desiree DeLeon (Salem, Mass.), each finished with a time of 13.62 seconds. Leah Hall (Lynn, Mass.) placed third among Merrimack participants at 14.06 seconds and Nichole Hicks (Plymouth, Mass.) rounded out Merrimack's runners in the event with a time of 14.71 seconds.
Merrimack also had two participants in the 10,000 meter run. Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, N.H.), determined to end her career with a solid performance, did just that. She registered a time of 40:30.03 landing her in 5th place for the event and less than four seconds off of the school record of 40.26.21, which she also holds. Fiona Coleman (Windsor, Conn.) was also very good finishing at 41:25.62. That time enabled her to round out the top 10 in the event.
Two Warriors participated in field events on Friday. Janelle Clark (Springfield, Mass.) competed in the long jump event and registered a distance of 4.87 meters. Clark's classmate, Ashley Wright (Somersworth, NH), competed in two events. The first was the high jump where she finished 8th with a height of 1.47 meters. The other was the javelin throw where Wright put up a distance of 28.07 meters.
The Warriors will compete in day two of the Northeast-10 Outdoor Championships tomorrow, Saturday May 5.
