BOSTON, MA- Sophomore Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, NH) became the first runner in program history to provisionally qualify for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships as she led the Merrimack women's track team on day one of the New England Championships Friday.
Devereaux ran a time of 2:15.87 in the 800 meters to claim a spot in Saturday's final race. Her mark is the fifth-fastest turned in this season in the East Region.
Also competing Friday was the distance medley relay of Fiona Coleman (Windsor, CT), Christie Manfra (Stoneham, MA), Kayla Morong (Topsham, ME) and Anne Bajor (Methuen, MA). The quartet clocked in with a time of 12:45.00, good for a 15th-place finish.
"Briana has really worked hard all season and I am proud of her for qualifying for the NCAA Championship meet," said head coach Matt Pimentel.
Devereaux will compete for All-New England honors Saturday afternoon on day two of the New England Championships hosted by Boston University.
