BOSTON, MA- For the second-straight season, the Merrimack women's indoor track & field claimed ninth place at the Northeast-10 Indoor Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Center Saturday evening. The Warriors totaled 25 points at the meet, coming up just three points behind Bentley.
Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, NH) earned All-Conference first team honors with a second-place finish in the 1,000 meter run with a mark of 3:01.94. Devereaux's time qualified her for the New England Championships.
Fiona Coleman (Windsor, CT) led a trio of Warriors in the top-10 of the 5,000 meter run as she claimed fourth. Kelsey Grimmer (Shelton, CT) crossed the finish line in seventh while Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, NH) seized ninth.
Ashley Wright (Somersworth, NH) cleared 1.47 meters in the high jump to garner an eighth-place finish in her first collegiate season.
Christine Manfra (Stoneham, MA) finished 11th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:04.76, just 0.18 seconds shy of a top-10 finish.
The Warriors' distance medley relay squad of Devereaux, Kayla Morong (Topsham, ME), Desiree DeLeon (Salem, MA) and Anne Bajor (Methuen, MA) earned second place with a mark of 12:44.21. The 4x800 relay quartet of Morong, Julie Binney (South Easton, MA), Andrea Chapa-Cerviatti (Worcester, MA) and Ashley Sarris (Shelton, CT) posted a time of 10:28.33 to claim eighth.
"We performed well today. Our athletes all came ready to compete. Every athlete turned in personal or seasonal bests in their events. Today was a big improvement over last year's results. It was great to see Merrimack be competitive is so many events," said head coach Matt Pimentel.
Up next, Merrimack will compete at the New England Championships February 24.
