Northeast-10 Indoor Championships On Tap for Track & Field Squads

The Merrimack indoor track and field teams will compete at the 2012 Northeast-10 Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, MA. Both squads claimed ninth-place finishes at last season's meet.

The women's squad leads the way with 28 qualifiers. Briana Devereaux (Londonderry, NH), Desiree DeLeon (Salem, MA) and Kelsey Grimmer (Shelton, CT) all qualified for three events this season. Devereaux posted the fifth-fastest time in the 1,000 meter run and the ninth-best mark in the 800 meter run.

The Warriors qualified six runners for the 5,000 meter event with Fiona Coleman (Windsor, CT) owning the conference's 15th-fastest time.

On the men's side, Ethan Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) and Luis Cruz (Lawrence, MA) each turned in three qualifying marks this year to headline Merrimack's 20 qualifiers. Weaver met the league standard in the 200 meters, 400 meters and 500 meter races. In his first collegiate season, Cruz qualified in the 800 meters, 1,000 meters and mile runs.

Merrimack garnered four qualifiers in the 55 meter dash this winter. Jesse Fowler (Lynn, MA) paced the sprinters with the seventh-best time in the conference.

The action is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. with the field events. The 55 meter dash trials will kick off the track events at 4:30 p.m.
