Track Prepares for GBTC Meet; Fowler, Weaver to Compete in Elite Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, MA- The Merrimack track and field teams will take on Boston's best as they get set to participate in the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational January 22 at Harvard University.

Jesse Fowler (Lynn, MA) and Ethan Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) have been selected to compete in the Elite Invitational at the Greater Boston Track Club meet.

Fowler will represent the Warriors in the PUMA Invitational Men's 200 meter dash. The junior is one of just five competitors slated to race in the event.

Weaver will compete in the SAKA Water Invitational 400 meter dash. The field for the 400 meter dash is comprised of just five sprinters.

Earlier this season, Weaver clocked in with a time of 51.39 seconds in the 400 meter dash at the Harvard Open. Weaver's time was good for a 10th-place finish while also qualifying him for the Northeast-10 Championship meet.

Last winter, Fowler claimed 14th in the 200 meter dash at the Northeast-10 Championships with a time of 23.70 seconds.

In the short history of the Merrimack track and field program, Fowler owns the fastest time in the 200 meter dash. The junior turned in a time of 22.82 in last year's Valentine Invitational.

In the 400 meter dash, Weaver holds the top three spots in the record book. The senior co-captain's best performance came at the Harvard Open earlier this season.

The Warriors have competed in just two meets this season, the Harvard Open and Tufts Invitational. So far this year, Merrimack has turned in 14 Northeast-10 qualifying marks.

At last year's event, Merrimack had ten runners turn in Northeast-10 qualifying times. John Doherty (Chelmsford, MA) and Harry Mullin (West Hartford, CT) each earned a spot at the Championship meet on the men's side. Anne Bajor (Methuen, MA) led the way for the women's squad with a pair of qualifying marks.
