LOWELL, MA – The Merrimack men's and women's outdoor track teams are set to compete in their first-ever Northeast-10 Championship beginning this Friday at UMass Lowell.
In its first year of competition, Merrimack expects to battle for points in numerous events on both the men's and women's teams.
On the men's side, Merrimack boasts nine athletes or relay teams who finished in the top-10 in the Northeast-10 during the season. Leading the way are Jesse Fowler (Lynn, MA), who ranks sixth in the 100 meters and fourth in the triple jump, and Josh Henry (Westport, CT), who is third in the triple jump.
Ian Weaver (Brooklyn, CT) placed 10th in the high jump, while Peter Early (Ward Hill, MA) was eighth in the 100 meters. Harry Mullin (West Hartford, CT) ranks fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Merrimack also features two strong relay teams, led by the 4x100 team of Early, Fowler, Ian Weaver and Ethan Weaver (Brooklyn, CT), who placed third among NE-10 relay teams during the spring season. The 4x400 team of Ethan Weaver, Ian Weaver, Brendan Mormille (West Haven, CT), and Steven Pascucci ranks eighth overall.
The women boast six athletes who enter the Championships in the top-10 in the conference.
Anne Bajor (Methuen, MA) leads the way with an eighth-place finish in the 3000 meters and a fourth-place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Rebecca Ainscow (Derry, NH) (fourth) and Caitlin Kasala-Hallinan (Worcester, MA) (sixth) are among the top runners in the 10,000 meters, while Ashley Sarris (Shelton, CT) ranks fifth in the 3000 meter steeplechase, right behind Bajor.
The meet will begin Friday at 4:30 p.m. with the discus, javelin, and long jump field events with the 100/110 meter hurdle trials and the 100 meter trials beginning at 5 p.m.
On Saturday, the field events commence at 11:30 a.m. with the track events at noon.
