Women's Tennis Travels to Saint Michael's Saturday to Start Spring Season
The Merrimack women's tennis team will hit the road to open the spring schedule as it visits Saint Michael's Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference match.
The Warriors will boast a 3-2 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the league at the start of the spring slate after claiming wins over Assumption, Le Moyne and Roberts Wesleyan during the fall.
Freshman Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) paces the squad with a 4-1 singles record. Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, MA) owns a 3-1 singles mark heading into the spring. In doubles play, Fitzgerald and Kara Hole (Portsmouth, RI) lead Merrimack with a 4-1 record.
The Warriors posted an 8-10 overall record last season with an 8-5 mark in league matches a year ago. Merrimack finished sixth in the conference standings last season and reached the quarterfinals of the Northeast-10 Tournament before falling to third-seeded Adelphi.
Head coach Sean Tully is in his first year at the helm of the Merrimack tennis program. The Warriors returned eight veterans in 2011-12, including Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, NH) who was named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year last season.
