Women’s Tennis Edged at Niagara 4-3

NIAGARA FALLS, NY – The Merrimack women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to Niagara Sunday. The Warriors fall to 3-2 on the season with the setback.

Merrimack faced a 1-0 deficit at the conclusion of doubles play. The Purple Eagles claimed the doubles point with a pair of victories. The Warriors' lone win came from the top duo of Kara Hole (Portsmouth, RI) and Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela), an 8-5 result.

The two sides split the six points in singles action as Niagara picked up the 4-3 win.

Kylie Waddington (South Glastonbury, CT) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 4 position. Katie Veasey (Atkinson, NH) also breezed to a 6-2, 6-0 win at the sixth singles slot.

Erin McMahon (Wilmington, MA) bounced back from dropping the first set 6-0 to capture the second 6-1. In the third-set super-tiebreaker, McMahon triumphed 10-7.

"We played well today and we were in many of the matches," said head coach Sean Tully. "This weekend was a good way for us to prepare for the Northeast-10 Conference matches and the New England Invitational."

Merrimack will look to improve to 3-0 in league play as it travels to face Franklin Pierce October 14.
