Shakee Messina Repeats as NE-10 Rookie of the Week

NORTH ANDOVER, MA- Freshman Shakee Messina (Caracas, Venezuela) of the Merrimack women's tennis team has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for the second-straight week, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Messina went 4-0 on the week to help the Warriors improve to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference. She accounted for two of Merrimack's three victories at Holy Cross. Messina partnered with Kara Hole (Portsmouth, RI) to register her first doubles victory of the season at the No. 1 slot. The rookie recorded the Warriors' lone singles win against the Crusaders, a 6-2, 6-0 decision at the top spot.

Messina captured her third-consecutive singles win at the No. 1 position at Le Moyne. She also progressed to 2-2 on the season in doubles competition with a victory at the first slot, teaming with Courtney Garvey (Woburn, MA).

The rookie is sporting a 4-1 singles record on the year with a 2-2 mark in doubles play.

Merrimack travels to Niagara University for a pair of matches October 8-9. The Warriors will take on the Purple Eagles October 8 and will face Roberts Wesleyan at Niagara October 9 in the penultimate dual match of the fall.
