Women’s Tennis Downed 9-0 at Stonehill

EASTON, Mass.- The Merrimack women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback at Stonehill Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors fall to 8-8 on the season with an 8-4 mark in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Skyhawks improve to 14-2 overall and 10-1 in the league.

Stonehill claimed victories in all three doubles matches to own a 3-0 lead at the start of singles action. Kara Hole (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) dropped an 8-5 decision at the No. 2 position. Courtney Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) and Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, N.H.) fell 8-2 at the top pairs spot. The No. 3 doubles team of Katie Veasey (Atkinson, N.H.) and Erin McMahon (Wilmington, Mass.) lost 8-1 to Amy Toegemann and Chelsea Haedrich.

The Skyhawks secured six singles wins to pick up their 14th win of the year. Hole fell 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles position. Garvey suffered a 6-2, 6-1 loss at the No. 2 slot while Barnes lost 6-0, 6-1 in the third spot. Stonehill's Paige Frost held off Fitzgerald to earn an 8-5 result at the fourth singles match.

Merrimack closes out the 2010-11 regular season schedule April 16 as it hosts Bentley.
