Women’s Tennis Bests AIC 9-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- The Merrimack women's tennis team captured a 9-0 victory over American International Thursday afternoon. The Warriors improved to 5-6 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Yellow Jackets drop to 0-6 on the year and 0-5 in league matches.

Merrimack glided to a 3-0 lead at the end of doubles action. Kara Hole (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) earned an 8-3 victory at the top slot. Erin McMahon (Wilmington, Mass.) and Katie Veasey (Atkinson, N.H.) cruised to an 8-0 win at the No. 2 position.

At the No. 1 singles spot, Hole prevailed 6-1, 6-2. McMahon picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the No. 2 singles match.

Veasey dropped one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the third singles slot. Heather Kent swept all 12 games at the No. 4 spot for a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

The Warriors seek to match their 2009-10 Northeast-10 Conference win total as they get ready to host Le Moyne April 2.
