RYE, N.H.- The Merrimack women's tennis team rolled past Pace 7-2 Saturday afternoon at the Wentworth by the Sea Country Club. The Warriors improve to 4-2 on the season and in the Northeast-10 Conference. The Setters sink to 1-7 overall and 1-5 in league matches this year.
The duo of Mollie Fitzgerald (Melrose, Mass.) and Kara Hole (Portsmouth, R.I.) claimed an 8-2 victory at the No. 2 doubles position. Alyx Barnes (Portsmouth, N.H.) and Courtney Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) dropped an 8-5 decision at the top doubles slot. The Warriors headed into singles play with a 2-1 lead after Pace forfeited the third doubles point.
Merrimack captured four singles wins en route its second-straight win. Garvey surrendered one game at the second singles spot on her way to claiming a 6-1, 6-0 victory. Barnes defeated the Setters' Danielle Sidoti 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles position.
Fitzgerald and Kylie Waddington (South Glastonbury, Conn.) each cruised to wins at the fourth and fifth singles slots in eight-game pro-sets. The Warriors picked up the match's final single point by way of a default at the No. 6 position.
Merrimack travels south for a week-long trip March 21 that consists of five matches. The Warriors kick-off the string of non-conference matches against SUNY New Paltz.
