NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Highlighted by 10 home contests and hosting the second consecutive Marriott Kickoff Classic, the Merrimack College women's soccer team's 2014 schedule has been announced by the Athletic Department today.
Under the guidance of 31st-year head coach Gabe Mejail, the Warriors will return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 5, to start the year against Dowling as part of the opening round of the Marriott Kickoff Classic. That marks the first of an 18-game regular season slate, spanning from early September to November.
Fortunately for the Warriors, they will not have to do much traveling over the first two weeks of the season, as the team's first four games will be played in North Andover before hitting the road for the first time on Sept. 20 at Pace.
Then, after trip up to Southern New Hampshire, Merrimack hosts Le Moyne on Saturday, Sept. 27, before heading to the Garden State for a non-conference matchup against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Bloomfield the following Monday (Sept. 29) evening.
Turning to October, the Warriors open the month with a Saturday (Oct. 4) trip to New Haven before returning home for another three-game homestand, with bouts against Saint Anselm (Oct. 7), national semifinalist American Int'l (Oct. 11) and a tilt against Queens College of the East Coast Conference (ECC) on Oct. 13.
The Navy and Gold then endure their longest road stretch of the year with three straight contests away from North Andover, including a highly anticipated clash with conference rival Saint Rose on Oct. 18, before returning home to face Adelphi (Oct. 25) and Bentley (Oct. 29). Merrimack rounds out the regular season with a short trek west to face Assumption on Saturday, Nov. 1.
The only team in Northeast-10 Conference history to qualify for the NE-10 Championship in each of the last 30 seasons, Merrimack will aim to make it 31-for-31 by ranking among the top-eight teams in the league for the 2014 NE-10 Women's Soccer Championship, which begins Tuesday, Nov. 4 with quarterfinal round action. The semifinals fall on Friday, Nov. 7, with the highest remaining seed hosting the league championship on Sunday, Nov. 9.
