NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Two members of the Merrimack women's soccer team – senior back Krista Fazio (Syosset, N.Y.) and classmate Jamie Alnwick (Groton, Mass.) – have been selected to participate in the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) Senior Bowl, the association announced Tuesday.
Both players were regulars in the lineup through the season and helped the Warriors post an overall record of 11-8-1 en route to an appearance in the Northeast-10 Conference Semifinals.
The game is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 2 at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. The contest is slated to begin at 11 a.m., and will feature the top seniors from programs throughout New England from Divisions I, II and III.
Fazio was the anchor of a Merrimack defense that limited opponents to only 1.02 goals per game and a meager .067 shooting percentage. The Long Islander appeared in and started all 20 games for Merrimack while posting her first two career points – both assists – to finish the season with two points and six shot attempts.
Alnwick, meanwhile, was an anchor in the midfield. The Bay State native saw action in all 20 contests and totaled two points on one goal and 26 shot attempts over the course of the season.
The Warriors narrowly missed out on an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament, but the program is primed for another strong run next year, as Merrimack returns its top four scorers and a plethora of other players with valuable experience next fall.
