Merrimack Set to Host NEWISA Senior Bowl, Women’s Soccer Garners Three Selections
NORTH ANDOVER, MA- Three members of the Merrimack women's soccer team have been chosen to participate in the NEWISA Senior Bowl. The annual event will once again be played at Martone-Mejail Field December 4 at 11 am.
Garabedian started 21 contests this fall and dished out two assists. She served as one of two captains on the 2011 squad.
Horne was tabbed to the Northeast-10 All-Conference third team this season after starting all 22 games in goal for Merrimack. She owned a 16-4-2 record between the pipes while sporting a 1.09 goals-against average. Horne posted nine shutouts this fall and turned away 121 shots.
Peacock was named the Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year this year and earned All-Conference first team honors. She ranked third on the team with nine points on three goals and three helpers. Peacock started all 22 matches on defense for the Warriors and served as a team captain this fall.
Merrimack finished the 2011 campaign with a 16-4-2 overall and an 11-2-1 mark in the league. The Warriors posted their 28th-consecutive winning record while making their 27th-straight trip to the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament.
Merrimack earned the No. 2 seed in the playoffs for the second-consecutive year. The Warriors topped Pace and Southern NH to reach the finals. In the championship game, Merrimack suffered a 5-1 loss at top-seeded Saint Rose.
The Warriors received an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament, marking the 11th trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. Merrimack edged past Holy Family in penalty kicks in the first round, setting up a rematch of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament final in the regional semifinals against the Golden Knights.
The Warriors were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament as they fell to Saint Rose 5-0 in the second round.
