How It Happened
Stouffer led the Warriors offensively with four goals, two assiss, two draw controls and a ground ball while freshman Clare Blomberg (Wading River, N.Y.) posted a team-high six draw controls and three goals. Freshman Megan Fero (East Manlius, N.Y.) recorded two assists and a goal.
Dowling opened the first half on a 6-0 scoring run until Shealyn Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) tallied the Warriors' first goal of the game off a nice pass from Stouffer. Shortly after, Merrimack struck again as Stouffer found the back of the net for her 17th goal of the season. From that point on, Dowling closed the half on a 6-0 scoring run to take a commanding 12-2 lead heading into halftime.
It was all Merrimack in the second half, as the Warriors opened the frame on a 5-1 scoring run to bring the score to within six (13-7) with 22:50 left to play. However, after back-to-back goals from Allie Merrill and Jackie Anderson, the Golden Lions extended their lead to eight (15-7).
With 13:23 left to play, Merrimack came together as a team and went on a 5-0 scoring run to bring the score to within three (15-12). Soon after, Dowling pushed its lead to four (16-12) which proved to be the finally tally of the game.
Senior goalkeeper Inna Hedden (Woodbine, Md.) tallied 11 saves in the loss while both Dowling goalkeepers tallied five saves in the 16-12 victory.
