NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The 12th-ranked Merrimack women's lacrosse team is prepared to take on the Stonehill Skyhawks in the Northeast-10 Quarterfinals on Wednesday night. The Warriors secured the six seed in the playoffs on Saturday as Saint Anselm was downed by the New Haven Chargers.
Merrimack won their final three conference games in order to finish the season with a 7-8 overall record and a 7-5 conference mark, advancing to the conference playoffs for the seventh straight season, including every season under current head coach Corinne Baker.
Earlier this season, Merrimack was edged by Stonehill by the score of 12-8 despite leading the Skyhawks 6-4 at halftime. The loss to the Skyhwaks marks the last conference loss for the Warriors. Mary Pasquantonio (Plainville, Mass.) led the way for the Warriors recording three goals in the defeat.
Stonehill finished the season with a 13-4 overall record including a 10-2 mark in the conference.
Heather Sullivan anchors Stonehill's offense with 51 goals and 59 points, while Kayla Green had 50 goals and 66 points.
Colleen Strachan (Bedford, MA) leads Merrimack was 39 goals, 62 points, 44 draw controls and 22 caused turnovers. Jenn Pino (North Andover, Mass.) was the team's second leading scorer racking up 37 points, while Alicia Tinsley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) was the team's second leading goal scorer with 27 goals. Pasquantonio missed nearly half of the season due to injury but still ended the season with 21 goals in eight games.
The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinal to take on the second-seed and three-time defending National Champion Adelphi at 1 p.m. in Garden City, New York.
Tickets for Wednesday's quarterfinal are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children and $1 for students with valid NE-10 ID.
