NEW HAVEN, CT – The Merrimack women’s lacrosse team will battle top-seed New Haven Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Northeast-10 Semifinals.

The winner advances to Sunday’s Northeast-10 Championship at New Haven against the winner of #2 Stonehill and #3 Southern New Hampshire.

Mia Basile scored seven first-half goals, as the fourth-seed Warriors defeated Bentley University in the NE-10 Quarterfinals Tuesday at Warrior Field. Winners of five straight games, they led 16-8 at halftime, behind seven first-half goals from Mia Basile, and two each from Lauren Leddy, Kelly Pasquantonio, and Maddie Basile.

The hosts continued their offensive success in the second, scoring three times in a 1:29 span in the first 3:32 of the final half, with Leddy netting two of them to push the lead to 19-8. Mary Pasquantonio added back-to-back unassisted goals midway through the second half, her 17th and 18th of the season.

Mia Basile finished with eight goals, one shy of tying the all-time school record for goals in a game. Leddy netted five goals in the win, giving her 38 on the season. Kelly Pasquantonio scored four times and dished out three assists. Maria DeStefano dominated the draw controls, especially in the first half, and finished with six in the game.

Jamie-Lee Whiteway was sharp in net, stopping 13 shots.

In their season opener, the Warriors lost to New Haven 20-7 in New Haven. The Warriors jumped out to an early 3-1 lead behind two goals from Kelly Pasquantonio and the first collegiate tally from her sister, Mary Pasquantonio. But the Chargers responded, scoring 11 unanswered goals, three each from Ashley Ferrandiz and Brigid Brady to grab a 12-3 lead. The Chargers had a commanding 13-4 advantage at halftime and cruised to victory from there.

New Haven received a bye in the first round after winning its first-ever Northeast-10 regular season title. Chargers goaltender Maureen Spellman captured Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year and Co-Freshman of the Year honors. After being upset by Southern NH 13-12 on April 11, the Chargers have rattled off five straight wins, led by 50 goals and 88 points from Ferrandiz.
