WARRIORS CONCLUDE REGULAR SEASON WITH THIRD-PLACE SHOWING AT AMHERST
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.– After sitting in third place as a team after Day 1 of competition, the Merrimack College women's golf team wrapped up its final invitational of the 2013-14 campaign with a two-day third-place finish at the Jack Leaman Women's Championship hosted by Amherst College.
Team Score: Merrimack (3rd / 15 Teams)
Top Finisher: Junior Ali Reed (3rd / 82-74 +10)
Location: Hickory Ridge Golf Club / Orchards Golf Club | Amherst/South Hadley, Mass.
How It Happened
For the third straight week, junior Ali Reed (Westborough, Mass.) was the top Warrior finisher, leading the Navy and Gold with a two-day 10-over-par, placing third in a field of nearly 90 competitors to help Merrimack place third out of 15 teams.
Behind Reed, senior Louise McGillivray (Banchory, Scotland) performed admirably in possibly her last collegiate outing, finishing just back of reed for the fourth overall spot in the individual leader board thanks to her 12-over-par finish (75-83—158).
Sophomore Jaclyn Drew (Lunenburg, Mass.) placed tied for 16th with a solid two-day 17-over-par finish to round out the Warriors' top three, while junior Bethany Arnold (Wrentham, Mass.) finished 33rd with a two-day score of 85-87—172. Finally, rookie Sam Gervais (Chelmsford, Mass.) rounded out Merrimack's quintet with a 49th-place finish, shooting 37-over-par over both days.
As a squad, the Warriors enjoyed another fine outing; after finishing Round 1 in third place, Merrimack made sure it lost no ground to settle for the final podium spot over the two-day tournament, as the Navy and Gold shot 649 as a team (65-over-par) to place third in the team standings.
Concluding its final tournament of the regular season, Merrimack will now await its fate to learn if it has qualified as a team to the NCAA East Regional Championships, or if any individual Warriors will be representing the squad at NCAA Regionals in the coming weeks.
