DAYTONA BEACH, FLA – Merrimack golf sophomore Ali Reed (Westborough, Mass.) competed in the first NCAA Tournament in program history on Wednesday afternoon and shot 78 in first round action at the LPGA International. The tournament is being played on the Legends Course, which is a par 72, 6228-yard course.
Reed opened the four day competition with a 78 on Wednesday which was good for tied for 32nd place overall out of 72 golfers. She completed her first round in ninth place out of 12 individual qualifiers.
Reed opened her round with two bogeys on the first three holes before carding back-to-back birdies on holes four and five. She closed out the front nine with a 38 and she closed the back nine with five pars and four bogeys for a 40 on the final nine.
In the team competition, Nova Southeastern is pacing the field as they had a team total of 292 which was nine strokes clear of Lynn University who finished the first day of competition in 2nd place shooting a team total of 301. Barry, St. Edward's and Grand Canyon conclude the top-5 as they fired 302, 304 and 309 respectively.
Reed will tee off tomorrow morning in the second round at 10:10 A.M. as she will be apart of the second last group out on the course.
