Women’s Golf Sits In First Place After Day One At Gannon University Spring Invite
ERIE, PA – Behind a pair of 80's from their top two golfers, the Merrimack women's golf team sits in first place out of seven teams after day one of the Gannon University Spring Invite. The Warriors shot a team score of 332 after first round action.
Mercyhurst University is close behind the Warriors as they had a team total of 335, just three strokes back, while Allegheny College is third with a team total of 339 and the hosts, Gannon, sit in fourth.
Sophomore Ali Reed (Westborough, Mass.) and junior Jessica Ngui (Richardson, Texas) paced the field after 18 holes of play as they both carded 80's. Reed fired a field-best 37 on the front nine and closed out her round with a 43 on the back while Ngui cruised to a 38 on the front and 42 on the back.
Louise McGillivray (Banchory, Scotland) opened up her round slow as she carded a 45 on the front nine but she recorded a field-best 37 on the back nine to put her in fifth place overall. Freshman Jaclyn Drew (Lunenburg, Mass.) continued her consistent play for the Warriors as she fired identical 45's on the front and the back nine's on Sunday. Bethany Arnold (Wrentham, Mass.) posted a 97 for the Warriors including a 48 on the back nine to help Merrimack sit alone in first place after day one.
Round two of the Gannon University Spring Invite will take place tomorrow morning in Erie, Pa.
