HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, PA – Merrimack women's golf finished 7th in the RMU Holiday Inn Colonial Classic this Monday and Tuesday. The team shot 732 for the tournament, finishing nine strokes ahead of Seaton Hill University. After a day one total of 372, the Warriors followed it up with a 360 on day two to arrive at their final mark.
Ali Reed (Westborough, MA) was the top individual finisher for the Warriors, shooting 175 for two days. Reed bettered her day one score by five strokes on the way to a 16th place finish. Lloyd Hoehle (Fullerton, CA) finished next in 20th place. After firing an 87 in the first round, she followed it up with a 90 this afternoon. Bethany Arnold (Wrentham, MA) was next in line, shooting a 180 on the way to a 23rd place finish. She knocked four strokes off her day one 92 with a second round 88. Vanessa Martinez (Tempe, AZ) recorded a six-stroke improvement on the second day to give her an even 200 for the event. A day one 103 and a day two 97 made up her tournament.
The event was held at The Club at Shadow Lakes, located near the Robert Morris campus in Hopewell Township, PA. This par 72 course plays 5,970 yards and boasts a PGA rating of 137. Joining Merrimack and host Robert Morris in the field this week are Laval, Mount Saint Mary's, Niagara, Seton Hill, Wagner, Wheeling Jesuit and Youngstown State.
Leading the way for the Warriors on day one was Hoehle who shot 87 and was tied for 12th place. Hoehle joined four players from Robert Morris knotted in the 12th position.
Ali Reed was second for Merrimack, shooting a 90 to join a group of four others in 20th place. Close behind was Bethany Arnold who's 92 put her in a tie for 26th with yet another Robert Morris Colonial. Vanessa Martinez turned in a 103 to earn a 40th place slot after the first round.
The Warriors are back in action next weekend for their final event of the year, the Wellesley Invitational at Nehoiden Golf Club.
