Women's Golf Ties for Eighth at Mount Holyoke Invitational
SOUTH HADLEY, MA– In their third event of the year, the Merrimack women's golf team finished tied for eighth at the Mount Holyoke Invitational. The Warriors turned in a team score of 687, knotting them with New York University inside the top ten. The tournament was held at Orchards Golf Club (Par 72) and included fifteen teams from around the region.
Ali Reed (Westborough, MA) shot the lowest round for the Warriors on day two, posting an 82 and totaling 168 on the weekend. Lloyd Hoehle (Fullerton, CA) tied Reed for the individual team-low, also turning in a 168 with an 86 on Sunday. Reed and Hoehle tied for 28th-place overall. Bethany Arnold (Wrentham, MA) continued her consistent play, adding an 87 to her 86 on Saturday to finish at 173. Vanessa Martinez (Tempe, AZ) followed up her 87 on Saturday with a 90 in the final round to give her a total of 178 for the event.
Williams College took first-place with a team score of 634. For the Ephs, it was their second-consecutive win as they finished just ahead of Middlebury which came in at 644. Middlebury's Flora Weeks took the individual title, shooting rounds of 73 and 75.
The Merrimack squad posted a team score of 342 on Saturday, putting them on solid ground heading into the final round Sunday.
Hoehle led the way for the Warriors on day one posting an 82, which was highlighted by a 38 on the back nine. Hoehle is tied for 14th place in the individual standings heading into the final 18. Reed and Arnold posted matching scores of 86, which are good for 30th after the first day. Vanessa Martinez fired identical 44's to come in at 88, ranking her 42nd in the field.
Merrimack is back in action next weekend at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate Tournament.
