NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – For the second time in the past three seasons, the Merrimack College women's basketball team has been honored for its excellence in the classroom, as the program has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 for 2013-14 academic year, as announced Monday.

Merrimack ranked 19th in the country in team grade-point average finishing the year with a 3.552 mark. That GPA would have ranked in the top 10 in the Division I and Division III fields, standing as a testament to the excellence displayed by the country's DII programs.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA; and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point average (GPA) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2013-14 season is the 19th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

The 2013-14 Northeast-10 Conference Team Academic Award recipient, Merrimack was one of just two NE-10 programs to crack the Top 25, joining Southern New Hampshire, which ranked 16th with a team GPA of 3.569.

Merrimack last cracked the WBCA Academic Top 25 was in 2011-12, when the Warriors finished 12th in the country with a GPA of 3.532.
