NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After leading the Northeast-10 Conference's 15 women's basketball programs in team grade-point average (GPA) over the academic year, the Merrimack College women's basketball team has been named the winner of the NE-10 Team Academic Excellence Award for Women's Basketball, the league announced Tuesday.

The Team Academic Excellence Awards recognize the program achieving the highest team grade point average in each of the conference's 23 varsity sports throughout the academic year. In all, nearly 69 percent of all teams across the Northeast-10 posted team GPA's of 3.0 or higher. In all, 68.84 percent (190-of-276) of NE–10 teams had a 3.0 GPA or higher.

The women's basketball team dominated in the classroom this winter, pacing all of Merrimack's current 23 varsity teams with a combined team GPA of 3.590. The Warriors started the year off with a 3.519 GPA in the fall 2013 semester before skyrocketing that mark up to 3.667 in the spring 2014 semester.

The NE-10 will tentatively release its Spring 2014 Commissioners' Honor Roll list Wednesday, with the Spring 2014 All-Academic Teams to follow at a later date.
