Women's Basketball Squares Off With Stonehill Tuesday

NORTH ANDOVER, MA - In a fight for the playoffs, the women's basketball team hosts Stonehill College in a rematch of November 24 in Easton, when the Skyhawks took down the Warriors.

The women tip-off at 5:30pm at Volpe Gym before the men take the court at 7:30pm for a battle with the top team in the Northeast-10 Conference.

On Tuesday, Merrimack will also be giving out 500 FREE white Merrimack Basketball t-shirts to fans for the 2010 Warrior Whiteout.

Last time out (Saint Anselm 74, Merrimack 60):                

Sarah Benischek scored a team-high 19 points for Merrimack, but 50% shooting and a 38-24 rebounding edge gave Warriors their second straight loss.  Merrimack was also out-scored 16-3 in second chance points and 24-10 in the paint.

All-Time Series (Merrimack 7, Stonehill 58): 

Merrimack has dropped the previous 10 match-ups with Stonehill while the last win came in the year the Warriors made their second straight run to the NCAA Final Four.  Merrimack also accounted for five of their seven series wins between 2002 and 2005.

Last Meeting [11-24-09] - Easton, MA (Stonehill 85, Merrimack 64):

Stonehill scored 15 points off 14 Merrimack turnovers as the Skyhawks ran away, winning the first and second half by 11 and 10 points, respectively.  Kelsey Simonds scored a game-high 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field.  For Merrimack, Genn Roy tallied a team-high 20 while freshman Katie Ganser scored a career-high 17 after 3-of-5 from long range.

Solving Kelsey Simonds:

Without Kelsey Simonds in the lineup during a 1-3 stretch over the past four games, the Skyhawks have averaged 60.3 points per game.  With Simonds in the lineup, Stonehill was 17-4 and she led the team in scoring and rebounding in 12 and 11 games, respectively.  Her 28 points against Merrimack in November is still her season-high.

Free Throw Omen

On the year, when Merrimack makes more free throws than the opposition they are 6-3.  When making fewer, the Warriors are just 1-10.  They are 1-1 when free throws are tied.

Miller Passes Clarkin for 8th All-Time at Merrimack

With 1,172 career points after Saturday's game, Casey Miller became the eighth all-time scorer at Merrimack College.  Of Miller's 1,172, 537 have come from beyond the arc with 179-of-577 in her career.  Miller will need just six more threes in order to set the school record of three-pointers in a career.  Christina Siragusa '04 set the mark over her four year career with 184 three-pointers.

First Half Lead = Win for Warriors:

This season, Merrimack is 5-0 when leading and 3-13 when trailing at the break.  Their only tie at the half was against Southern Connecticut (28-28) in which Merrimack ended up losing.
