Former UMass Lowell star Krista MacKenzie enters her third season as part of the Merrimack College softball coaching staff for the 2015-65 season.
She helped guide the Warriors back to the postseason for the first time in three years in 2014 and provided instruction for an offense that ranked at the top of the Northeast-10 Conference in several categories last spring. She helped produce two more all-conference honorees in 2015 as a young Merrimack squad nearly captured a spot in the NE-10 Championship.
MacKenzie, who graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, spent four seasons with the River Hawks and was a force at the plate and in the field in each of those campaigns.
The former River Hawk earned three Northeast-10 All-Conference Team honors, starting with a berth on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman, an all-conference second team spot as a sophomore and, finally, an all-conference first team honor as a senior. In her final campaign, she also earned All-East Region Second Team distinction, as well, during which she batted .351 with 21 RBI, eight triples and 22 stolen bases.
MacKenzie left UMass Lowell tied for first in the all-time record books in run scored (148), ninth in games played (189), tied for second in at-bats (602), third in hits (219), ninth in RBI (94), second in stolen bases (71), third in batting average (.364), and second in on-base percentage (.440).
MacKenzie resides in Ipswich, Massachusetts.
