NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College softball team placed five members on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced this week by the NFCA.

Five different Warriors – inlucing rising seniors Jessica Fugazzotto (Newton, Mass.) and Nicole LoPIlato (Medford, Mass.), and rising juniors Valerie Bauer (Salem, N.H.), Stephanie Lapierre (Berlin, Conn.) and Courtney Ulak (Rehoboth, Mass.) – all represented the Navy and Gold in earning one of the top nationwide academic honors among all softball-playing student-athletes.

To qualify for the list, each student-athlete must have finished with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 or higher during the 2012-13 academic year, including both the fall and spring semesters.

"I'm proud of our strong academic team with a combined 3.21 GPA led by the fantastic five who finished with GPAs over 3.5, receiving national recognition by our sport's premiere association."

Merrimack continues its October schedule this Saturday at Boston University before concluding the fall slate with its annual Alumni Game on Sunday, Oct. 20.
