NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After leading the team in nearly all offensive categories and after finding a spot on the Northeast-10 All-Conference First Team earlier this month, senior Tawny Palmieri (Peabody, Mass.) of the Merrimack softball team added another postseason accolade after being named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region First Team, as announced Friday.
Wrapping up a sensation three-year career with the Warriors after transferring from UMass, Palmieri boasted tremendous numbers in her final campaign with the Navy and Gold. The infielder led the team with a .432 batting average on 54 hits while tallying a team-best 31 runs.
Palmieri knocked in nine doubles, two triples and eight homers while totaling 34 RBI, as well. The Peabody, Mass., native slugged .728 on the year and owned a .510 on-base percentage and went 11-for-15 in stolen bases.
No stranger to postseason recognition, Palmieri was previously named to the all-conference first team back in 2011, the same spring that saw her earn a spot on the Daktronics All-Region Second Team, as well. She leaves Merrimack ranking in the top-10 all-time leader board in several offensive categories.
