CLERMONT, FL- After losing their first game of the season against Queens Monday morning, Merrimack (3-1, 0-0 NE-10) bounced back in game two to blank St. Thomas Aquinas 6-0 for their third win in two days.
In game one Merrimack had five hits at the plate but could only push one run across. Senior Jill Gagnon (Manchester, NH) had the only RBI of the game scoring classmate Jill Richards (Bucksport, ME).
Junior hurler Atlee Cahill (Gloucester, MA) pitched a one hitter through six innings in the first game of the day. In the bottom of the sixth Queens put one on the board and went ahead to score three more runs handing the Warriors their first loss this year. Behind Cahill, the Warrior defense allowed two errors in seven innings, their only errors of the day.
The Warriors had twelve hits in their 6-0 win against St. Thomas Aquinas. Gagnon who continued hitting the ball well was 1 for 3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs. Also contributing at the plate were sophomores Kristen Lemay (Shrewsbury, MA) who was 2 for 3, Rachel Lozeau (Nashua, NH) who was 3 for 4, and junior Atlee Cahill who was 2 for 4.
Gagnon who had another great day on the mound struck out all but six of the batters she faced, allowing only one hit in seven innings.
Merrimack finished the day with seventeen hits in total, improving to 3-1 overall. They will put in a full day on St. Patrick's Day playing four games taking on Nyack in doubleheader one of the day beginning at 9 a.m., and playing the second half of the games against Florida Southern at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
