Chris Cameron begins his 17th season as head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country teams. He will begin his first season as the assistant track and field coach.

For the third straight year, both of Cameron’s 2009 squads were named the USTFCCCA National All-Academic squads, while the men’s team earned the highest grade-point-average among men’s sports at Merrimack for the third straight season.

In addition, four student-athletes from the women’s cross country team were named Academic All-Americans following the 2009 campaign.

Cameron has been named the Northeast-10 Women’s Coach of the Year three times and has coached numerous Northeast-10 Conference Runners of the Year and Freshmen of the Year. He guided the women’s cross country team to three-straight conference titles from 1997-1999. On several occasions, his teams have been selected by the NCAA Division II Cross Country Coaches Association as an Academic All-America, and many individual runners have garnered Academic All-America honors.  In 2005, such was the case with both the men's and women's team, as well as Alison O'Brien, who was named an All-American by the Coaches Association.

A 1989 graduate of Clemson University where he earned cum laude status as a secondary education and history major, Cameron was a member of the three-time Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) champion Tiger cross country and track & field teams. In 1989, Clemson placed fourth at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. Cameron is also a four-time ACC All-Academic Honor Roll member.

A native of Methuen, he resides in Barrington, N.H. with his wife Mary-Jo and their two children.

 
 


Matt Pimentel

Matt Pimentel enters his first year as the head indoor and outdoor track coach at Merrimack. Also at Merrimack, Pimentel fulfills the role of assistant cross country coach alongside Chris Cameron.

A 2005 graduate of Clemson University having majored in sports marketing with a minor in athletic leadership, Pimentel also earned a certificate in American sport education program.  At Clemson, he ran cross country, indoor and outdoor track for four years.  As a Tiger, he was a member of the 2002 indoor ACC championship team and the 2004 ACC outdoor championship team (finished 7th in the 10,000 at ACC's 30:34).  He was also a three-time all-South Carolina athlete in cross country. 

Prior to Clemson, Pimentel graduated from Austin Prep as a five-time state champion in cross country and track that earned him the 2000 Boston Globe 'Runner of the Year' award.

Pimentel has also run for the Adidas Racing team and assumed the role of volunteer assistant coach for the Going The Distance youth program.
